LAGOS 'ASHAWOS' BEAT UP POLICEMAN WHO APPROACHED THEM

Two prostitutes who ply their trade in Lagos have been accused of beating up a policeman named Sergeant Usang, in the Apapa area of Lagos.

The commercial sex workers, identified as Dominca Paul, 22, and Chioma Aneka, committed the offence on Jan. 20 at New Road, Oshodi-Apapa.

The ladies, who live at the Ajegunle area of Apapa, were roaming the streets at about midnight when Sergeant Usang saw them and confronted them. But they could not provide any satisfactory answer when Usang asked them of their destination.

The police officer decided to take them to the station and that was when they attacked him and tore his uniform.

The prosecutor, Inspector Tony Elibeh said they assaulted Sergeant Usang while he performing his duty.

Dominica and Chioma, charged before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos yesterday, January 26, are facing a three-count charge of breach of peace, unlawful damage and assault.

They however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

They were granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum by Titus Abolarinwa, the Chief Magistrate.

He adjourned the case till February 24.
