Kano police lauds locals in terror fight

Abuja - Police said they would continue the public awareness campaign
against terror following its success in curbing insurgency in Kano
State.
According to police, the campaign was key in recovering high capacity
explosives in front of a mosque in the state.
State Police Commissioner, Aderele Shinaba, said public awareness and
sensitization by the command resulted to the success.
“The Command is always on air and sometimes physically going round
to sensitize the general public on security tips, public awareness and
sensitization which result to this success I urge all citizens of this
Country to join hand and support the Command and all the security
agencies in fighting terrorism and all forms of criminal activities In
the State and the nation in general,” said Sinaba.
He said the police would continue to give their best in providing
adequate security of lives and properties as well as maintaining law
and order in the state.
According to him on Saturday, on the eve this year’s Eid Fitr
celebration by Muslims all over the world, at about 2240 local time, a
distress call was received from the members of the community that a
Peugeot 406 white in colour with reg. No AA 513 ZAK was discovered
abandoned at the gate of Isiayaku Rabiu Mosque located at Goron
Dutse Qtrs in Kano.
“On receipt of the information, our men led by the EOD Personnel were
mobilized to the scene and discovered the said vehicle was loaded with
IEDs primed to be detonated during today’s Eid Fitr’s Prayers.”
Sinaba added that the police immediately disconnected and dislodge
the EIDs safely without causing any injury or damage.
“We immediately disconnected and dislodge the explosives safely

Meanwhile, on Sunday, policemen on duty at North-West University in
Kano said they had averted another bomb attack on the school.
According to a police report, the suicide bomber died and five
policemen who isolated her sustained minor injuries.
“The vigilant police officers spotted a suspicious young female dressed
in a flowing hijab approaching the school gate. They immediately
isolated her, the explosives stripped around her body went off.
"Only the female suicide bomber died in the incident, five policemen
sustained minor injuries and has been rushed to the hospital for
treatment,” police said.
The State Police authority advised citizens to be vigilant.
