US agency seal partnership with police

Abuja - The Nigeria Police Force has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) with United States Department of States
Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, on
behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the US Ambassador to
Nigeria, James Entwistle executed the MoU.
According to Frank Mba, Force Public Relations Officer, the
partnership is part of the comprehensive measures geared towards
tackling emerging crimes, strengthening the criminal justice
system and improving the capacity of officers in the area of
technologies, new policing concepts and practices and effectively
addressing the issues of insurgency confronting the nation
especially in the North-Eastern part of the country.
That region is worst affected by the ongoing terror Boko Haram is
perpetrating.
Mba said the Ambassador noted that the Police Force would
benefit from the International Police Education and Training
Programme run by the US authorities with funding from the US
Department.
He also noted that the training pact would help to improve and
modernize police training in Nigeria and bring about a well-
trained Nigeria Police dedicated to the highest standards of
ethical conduct, proficiency in law enforcement, support and
build on efforts of Nigeria Police to implement sustainable
development.
